I have a staff. It is technically possible for a witch to fly on their own power, but levitation magic on that much weight is extremely draining. Its far easier for a staff to fly.

Depends how good you're at it.

It is different from having wings. A staff, you always have the option to power through bad wind without really feeling it. It drains the staff. With wings, you know when you're in a bad space because you have to push your wings.

But...you can do more with a staff if you're aware of the winds. Find more speed, make it a more pleasant ride, easier to combine it with other magic. Did a few ports, and let me tell you, I could feel when the energy passed through a bad wind.

Doesn't sound that different from piloting, anyway, even if that's more about knowing the ship and its controls, rather than magic stuff...

Yeah, a ship is the same sort of thing. Except you're a lot smaller. Which, easier to dodge bad winds, but also more likely to get knocked around if you don't.

Yeah, there's a lot of weather variables to account for when you're flying in atmosphere. It's a different set of problems outside of that, but in a way, if you're launching from space it's easier, especially if you're in a single-seater.

...is that just how you get around all the time, then? I don't know how much you know about your own past.
